A 43-year-old man of Indian descent has been indicted for federal tax violations in Texas, USA. The Justice Department announced that Anil Surbhi was charged with attempts to evade taxes, holding the status of a permanent resident.
According to the indictment, Anil operates an IT firm based in Georgia. He allegedly misappropriated funds from his business for personal investments and expenses, failing to report this income on his tax returns.
Tax evasion is considered a serious federal offense in the United States, carrying potential civil and criminal penalties. A conviction could lead to a prison sentence of up to five years or a fine reaching $250,000, while corporations may face fines as high as $500,000.
Reckless Driving Incident Involving Harjinder Singh
On August 22, Harjinder Singh, an illegal immigrant truck driver, was returned to Florida to face charges related to reckless driving that resulted in the deaths of three individuals in a crash, as reported by a media outlet.
Singh was escorted off a plane by Florida's Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins upon arrival to confront the charges against him. Collins stated on social media that he and Governor Ron DeSantis ensured Singh returned to 'face justice.'
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) had issued an arrest detainer for Singh. According to DHS, Singh, who is undocumented, attempted an illegal U-turn on August 12 at an 'official use only' access point, blocking all highway lanes and causing the fatal accident.
Following the incident, on August 18, Tricia McLaughin, the Assistant Secretary of DHS, criticized California's Governor for issuing a commercial driver's license to Singh, emphasizing ongoing efforts to remove criminal illegal aliens from the country.
